Annapurna Encounter offers one of the most unique journey trekking in the wild west Around Humla & Limi Valley close to Nepal and Tibet, starting with a scenic sweeping flight to sub-tropical of Nepalgunj in south west Nepal and to alpine area of Simikot the major town of Humla district near Tibet frontier, and then trekking through beautiful country over high passes passing many interesting villages steeped with old culture, religion and traditions and then over 5,000 m / 15,030 ft pass at Nara Lagna on the dry arid country which is an extension of great Tibetan plateau.

The walk continues Around Humla & Limi Valley on great picturesque country of barren, arid terrains of hills and valley with continues views of snow capped peaks of North West Nepal and of Tibetan mountains as far to Mt. Kailash in Tibet and then going over the highest pass of this trip at Nara Lagna of 5,000 meters and 15,030 ft high pass and towards the remote frontier village at Hilsa just a mere distance up hills to Sher in Tibet.

Our journey stays within Nepal side after being close to Tibetan side and returning back to Simikot through high villages of Halji, Jang and Talung at 4,370 meters one of isolated places very least explored and trekked within this region, with chances of seeing some wildlife like herds of blue sheep’s and the rare snow leopard which can be spotted sometimes around this area.

After walking in this remote wilderness with climb over the last high pass of Nyalu La at 4,949 meters before reaching back to Simikot for the sweeping flight back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj with a memorable and overwhelming time in Nepal’s most remote Around Humla & Limi Valley with grand service of Annapurna Encounter.

Morning at leisure with 2-3 hours sightseeing tour at places of interest around Kathmandu city and its valley, afternoon, our staff will accompany and transfer to domestic terminal of Kathmandu airport for 50 minutes sweeping scenic flight to Nepalgunj city located in the most warmer area of South West Nepal close to India border of UP, with great panorama of snow capped mountains during the flight, on reaching Nepalgunj transfer to respective hotels for overnight stop.

After a pleasant stop at Nepalgunj in the warmet area of Nepal, morning transfer to airport for a sweeping flight of about 40 minutes to Simikot, on reaching Simikot, after panorama views of mountains during the flight,meet our trekking staff who have reached here from Kathmandu after a long drive and walk here to recive you for an adventurous trek, on meeting our staff walk to the town of Simikot a moderate town placed on a ridge bove Humla Karnali River with fantastic views of the deep valley and mountains around.

After a nice rest here, starting the first day walk of this journey to camp at Dharapuri village, on leaving Simikot area, walking uphills into farm fields of barley, buck wheats and to forested hill and then with downhill through several farm villages to our first overnight camp at Dharapuri a neat farm village of Hindu Thakuri Chettri people.

With the first night in the hills of Nepal at Dharapuri village, morning walk starts heading to a gentle climb following a stream at the last Takuri Chettris village and then leading up and down the trail to a summer pasture area at Sally – Khola river with beautiful waterfall closeby to camp for overnight near to a village of Kermi, from the camp visit the hot springs near to Kermi village.

Stareting the morning walk with a climb into Yangar village with nice stone path trail by the river and crossing a bridge over Humla Karnali River and again it leads to a climb passing pretty area of apples and apricot garden and finally reaching at our overnight camp in a small village at Muchu an old monastery with a border police post close by as this village onwards leads to Nepal /Tibet frontier.

From Muchu, morning journey with a downhill towards Thumkot village, and then climbing past the river, after leaving Humla-Karnali River behind walk leads into a narrow gorge with steep-sided path, from here a long hour on the gradual nice path with a gentle climb after Bumchiya Khola river gorge reaching at overnight camp in Torea small village with half day free at leisure visitng around the village area.

After Torea village slowly adding more altitude in our journey, as the walk continues with an uphill to a small ridge at 3,500 meters high, countering the ridge top with super views of Yari valley below andhigh snow capped mountains in the distance, and then walking by an irrigation canal and into a large wide valley of Jhyakthang chu with Buddhist prayer walls marking along the trail.

From here a gentle climb to reach Yari, a moderate size village, an interesting place with police post, government custom office and primary school and neat cultivated, farm areas harveting good crops of millets, barley, amaranth (Marcia) wheat, buckwheat’s, potatoes and radishes. After a break here observing this village life walk carries on to a climb on the wide valley, passing many traders, pilgrims and animals goats, sheep’s and yaks, then ending this lovely walk at a small settlement of cattle herders with few shops at Sip-Sip to set our overnight camp close and beneath the base of Nara Lagna pass.

The last walk in Nepal side before heading back to Kathmandu, morning walk leads to the frontier Hilsa village, after going through a long climb at Nara Lagna pass with huge rock on the top at 5,000 meters or 15,030ft, this will be the highest top of this trip in the Nepal side, from the top looking at awesome views of Tibetan plateau with Humla Karnali River below with green farm fields of Sher in the distance and of Api and Saiphal mountains, after a nice stop with the grand panorama heading to a descent on the dusty trail back to Humla Karnali River and towards our last overnight camp in Nepal at Hilsa village right on the border with South Western part of Tibet and the gateway to Lake Manasarover, Rakshes Tal and holy mountain of Kailash.

Morning leads to Manepemea after being so close Tibet border just an hour across, our route leads back to Simikot town with an alternative high and remote path through many isolated farm villages and monasteries which is of strong Tibetan influence and the people are of similar looks with culture and custom, starting crossing over an iron bridge to reach other banks of Karnali river which is the longest river of Nepal fed from the glacier of Mt. Kailash in Tibet, then following Karnali River on the trail to Manepeme village, with gradual winding path and climb and ending the day at Manepeme village for overnight camp.

After a pleasant stop on this quaint village with few houses, walk leads to gradual climb on a narrow trail and reaching to a level ground for few hours and with steep haul over a narrow trail to Ya Yip Phuk where there is nice cave which is used as meditation by Buddhist monks long time back a great high guru Lotsawa Rinchen Sangpo a great translator of Tibetan Buddhist scriptures mediate here around 985-1055 A.D. From here trekking for an hour reaching at Lamka La pass at 4,300 meters with spectacular views of mountains and valleys, and then descending to Til village for overnight camp in this small village with a monastery and many interesting stupas.

From Til village walk leads to Halji starting the short day walk of three hours with a descend to Limi River and on nice gradual path with fabulous surrounding views around this area might spot some wildlife a herd of blue sheep’s and mountain goats including elusive snow leopards.

After few hours of pleasant walk reaching at Halji village for overnight stop, this old traditional village houses an important 14th century monastery called Rinchenling Gompa which belongs to Tibetan Buddhism of Kagyugpa Sect, this lovely village with a medical clinic,micro hydro power plant and solar plant with the help of Nepal Trust Foundation, afternoon with ample time to explore in and around this village area which is very interesting and impressive to explore around here.

Today another short walk till lunch at Jang village, morning starts following Limi Khola (stream) with stunning views of surrounding landscapes panorama and then shortly after a nice walk ending the day at Jang village, this is the last and third largest village of Limi Valley area, after lunch to explore this pretty Jang village of authentic Tibetan culture, religion with traditional way of life.

After having two short days enjoying the stay in these remote villages, today a long walk on the barren, arid and windswept territory with stunning views of beautiful country of Tibetan landscapes this gentle walk passes many yak and cattle herders temporary camps on this summer pasture area and reaching towards a green valley for the overnight camp on this wonderful beautiful valley of Talung.

Today another long day’s walk as it leads to the last pass of this trip before Simikot town, after this camp starting with a steep uphill walk at above 4,940 meters on top of the ridge of Nyalu La pass with awesome panorama of Tibetan plateau with Mt. Kailash at 6,714 m and of Mt, Api and Saipal 7,031 meters with other adjoining snowcapped mountains.
After a nice stop with great views walk leads to a descend at Selma Tso a glacial pond at around 4,630 meters, from here trek follows Salli River all the way to Shinjungma, a summer pasture and grazing land to set the overnight camp on this nice grassy field.

After being away from human settlement for few days, today’s walk leads back into villages with a long descend and reaching back to tree lines of pine and birch woodland along Salli Khola route, after few hours of nice walk, where Salli Khola joins the great Karnali River and then heading east to Kermi village for overnight stop with time to visit hot springs which is a mere distance from this village.

Finally this great adventure Around Simikot & Humla comes to a final end at Simikot town, morning with the last day walking of this journey leads to a climb at Darapuri 2,300 meters and Majgaon 2,290 meters. From this nice Majgaon village leading to a long climb for few hours to reach back at Karnali River and up to a small ridge of above 3,000 meters high pass; from the top offering grand views of hills and valleys with Mt. Api and Saiphal peaks, and then on the pleasant downhill walk concluding this last and final days trekking at Simikot town for the last overnight stop of this amazing trip in Nepal’s Far North West and around Humla and Limi valley.
