Best Season For Makalu Base Camp With Arun and Barun Valley

Spring ( April to June)

  • Benefits: Makalu Base Camp is most sought-after during this season. The weather is stable, temperatures are milder than post-monsoon, and melting snow minimizes obstacles, offering clearer skies.
  • Drawbacks: Peak season means more climbers, potentially leading to crowded base camps and bottlenecks on certain mountain sections.

Autum ( September to November)

  • Benefits: The post-monsoon season ranks as the second most popular time for Himalayan expeditions. Clear skies post-rains provide stunning panoramic views, and cooler temperatures result in firmer ice, preferred by some climbers.
  • Drawbacks: Days grow shorter and colder, particularly in late October and November, with an increased risk of early winter storms during this time.

Summer ( June to September)

  • Benefits: Limited opportunities. Some trekkers explore lower regions for monsoon blooms and less crowded trails.
  • Drawbacks: Not suitable for high-altitude expeditions. Slippery, dangerous trails due to monsoon rains. Increased risk of avalanches, landslides, and flash floods. Obscured mountain views and extended periods of confinement due to heavy rain.

Winter ( December to February)

  • Benefits: Winter climbs offer an extreme challenge for mountaineers seeking to test their skills and resilience. The mountains are nearly deserted, providing crystal-clear views.
  • Drawbacks: Harsh cold, shorter days, and a high chance of snowstorms. Mountaineers are at greater risk of frostbite and cold-related illnesses. Only a select few highly skilled climbers attempt Makalu in winter.
